• Then & Now

Over the years I’ve developed the habit of taking “selfies” in front of blank backdrops, and as I was sitting down to write this update about my goings on I thought, what a good time to show you an old selfie, and a new! So first, here I am at 17, looking understandably disgruntled/awkward:

And here’s me today – 23 years old, and thankfully mellowed:

It’s always too much fun to look back at old photos of yourself and realize the changes that have happened in between those moments. Although not much about me has changed but the length of my hair and general teenage distain for everything, I have experienced so much in the five years between these photos. To best describe what has changed, a brief and simple list:

I got a bachelors degree in photography from Warren Wilson College. I just graduated in May!

I have been in three relationships, but this one I’m in now takes the cake (more on that soon!).

I got my own critters! Wanna see?

I’ve also successfully rented my own house, and have recently moved into a new apartment that has been a whirlwind of DIY home projects that I’m eager to share!

I’ve got a folder full of ideas, inspirations, and photos that’s been burning a hole in my desktop, and I’m glad I’ve finally sorted out the time to start sharing them with the Internet again. Check back tomorrow for a look at my most recent show (I’ve mentioned it here), as well as a random collection of photos I’ve taken throughout my college years.

  • The Unexpected Accessory Your Closet Needs Right Now

colorful, pattterned ozone socksNordic Stripe, Endangered Cats Snow Leopard, Endangered Cats Tiger, Tribal Textiles

For the longest time I wasn’t a sock person at all. Yes, I wore them, but only in solid colors, and always neutrals. I would only buy them occasionally (when near the checkout and on sale), and therefore my sock game has been pretty basic for most of my life.

One day after seeing Konrad get excited about yet another pair as gifts, I asked him what was so great about socks. “They just feel so fresh,” he told me. “Luxury,” he said. And you know what? He’s right. The next time I bought new socks their luxuriously fresh feel totally spoke to me. New socks are awesome. So are socks in amazing patterns (something else he appreciates that has also rubbed off on me).

The above are my favorite designs from Ozone, and as their tagline says, they are all about the art of socks. They have socks in every length and pattern, and since winter is on its way to Vermont, I am definitely in the market for some new knee-highed socks of luxury.

Lucky for everyone, I has a few coupon codes to share:

25% off orders over $50 with Code: A25OVER50
15% off orders under $50 with Code: A15UNDER50

    Enjoy!

  • The All Seeing Eye

painted eye on handBefore I take off for the weekend I wanted to share one last photo from the shoot I did with my sister (here and here). I painted this eye onto her hand for her to hold over her face in a few shots, and for some reason seeing it in this photo really freaks me out! It came out pretty realistic I think.

    Have a great weekend!

  • My Favorite Funny Show of the Moment

Have you heard of Veep? The first season aired last Spring on HBO, and I am now eagerly anticipating the third season in 2014. Veep stars one of my favorites, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the Vice President of the United States. The tone of the show is very Parks and Recreation-ish – clumsy characters and awkward, hilarious situations. Anna Chlumsky from My Girl, and Tony Hale (Buster on Arrested Development!) help round out the perfect cast. They’re only 30 minute episodes (quick watch and easy to get addicted!), and you can get the DVDs from Netflix right now.

  • Hairstyle 11/30: Loose Modern Glamour Waves

side hair vintage wavesToday I have a special reappearance of the long neglected hairstyles series – and it’s featuring my littlest sister on her birthday (happy birthday my baby love!). These photos are a continuation of the shoot from yesterday, only specifically focused on her hair.

The waves were created using a curling wand, which I used to wrap all the curls in the same direction – away from the face. I let her hair set for a few minutes before gently brushing out the curls to get these gorgeous glam waves. Her hair is naturally ombre’d from spending the entire summer in the sun, and I think it makes for some really pretty highlighting of the hair texture.

Well I’ve just added it to a small society6 shop where you can purchase prints, shirts, cell phone cases and a few other items. I also have another design with a watercolored bouquet. I plan to add more illustrations in the near future – enjoy!
